HI Now Interview with Owner Akira Nakajima

Nov 30, 2020

The Dine and Shop Pop-Up is back at Aloha Stadium for the last time on Sunday, November 15! Fujiya Hawaii is one of the vendors you’ll be able to find there, and HI Now host Kainoa Carlson is with owner Akira Nakajima to get a preview of the store’s specialties.

With almost 70 years of history in Hawaii, Fujiya Hawaii was originally located in Kalihi. In September of 2020, it reopened after moving to a new location at 930 Hauʻoli St. in McCully-Mōʻiliʻili. The store is now open Monday – Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Its products “HAWAIʻI WAGASHI” are made in Hawaii and rooted in traditional Japanese sweets called WAGASHI — the fusion of Japanese and Hawaii flavors! One of its best selling products is the fresh strawberry mochi. If you’re looking to try this treat, better get there early, as it often sells out quickly!
