About Fujiya Hawaii
About Fujiya
At Fujiya Hawaiʻi, we’re proud to craft wagashi — Japan’s timeless sweet confections — with a special aloha-spirit twist, right here in the heart of Oʻahu. For decades our shop has been a place to gather, to savour, and to pass on sweet traditions, from the classic Japanese daifuku to our local-style chichidango.
Our Story
Our roots run deep in Honolulu. Originally founded in the 1950s, Fujiya has served our local ʻohana for more than 70 years. The shop began in the Kalihi area along Waiakamilo Road, where generations came for freshly made mochi and Japanese-style sweets. Over time we relocated to a newer space in McCully, yet the heart of the craft remains unchanged — the same gentle hands, the same mindful process, the same respect for tradition.
Our commitment has always been to blend the best of two food-cultures: Japanese refinement and Hawaiʻi’s warm, inclusive spirit. As one write-up put it, Fujiya introduced “Hawaiian-Japanese sweets — a fusion of Hawaii and Japan.”
What Makes Our Wagashi Special
- We honour the traditions of wagashi — delicate, seasonal, elegant sweets meant to accompany tea and moments of calm.
- But we don’t stop there. We also embrace local Hawaiʻi flavour: chichidango with haupia, daifuku with tropical fruit or peanut-butter-inflected fillings, mochi in dusted kinako and colourful forms.
- Our mochi and daifuku are handmade in small batches each day. You’ll often see our team at work, stretching, wrapping, dusting — the human touch is central.
- We use quality ingredients and aim to keep that melt-in-your-mouth texture that brings back memories for many.
- We also strive to be a place that welcomes everyone — locals, visitors, young and old. At Fujiya Hawaiʻi the door is open, the smiles are genuine, and sharing sweetness is our way of giving back to the community.
Our Promise
Whether you’re reaching for a classic red-bean daifuku or a Hawaiʻi-inspired chichidango, you’re getting more than a treat. You’re getting decades of care, a melding of traditions, and a moment of pause in our busy world. We bake in the history, knead in the aloha, and deliver with a smile.
Thank you for being part of our story. We hope our sweets bring you joy and remind you of connection — to place, to people, to tradition.
With gratitude,
The Fujiya Hawaiʻi Team

This little shop is tucked away in the neighborhood. We finally found time to check it out and I am SO glad we did. All the mochi is so fresh. I was able to try multiple flavors including peanut butter, white bean, red bean. They have some with fresh fruits inside and we dabbled in the grape and strawberry ones. I haven't had such fresh mochi in years because it's hard to find where I live.
The staff was friendly. Free parking available out front. Quaint little place. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Honolulu. I'm already craving more! -

Even though I'm the only mochi fan in the family, this was a must stop! There is a private parking lot here which makes it super easy to grab and go. The left side has a lot of cute merchandise and snacks, great for souvenirs! The mochi options itself are overwhelming - so many great choices! The chichi dango was very soft and I liked the melona flavor a lot. But the pumpkin butter mochi was the winner for me! Loved the texture on the outside and soft chewy center, plus they nailed the flavor. The staff were so nice, and even gave little samples to our kids!

Fujiya Hawaii does it so well! Fresh fruit mochi! I had to try the strawberry and an filled mochi, the peanut butter, banana and an mochi and the mixed berry and an mochi!
I also couldn't resist a two piece tray of the crunchy peanut butter mochi!
Simply irresistible!
